The Degree in History of Art forms for the understanding of historical and artistic objects, and for their study and preservation. It aims to familiarize students with new avenues of historical-artistic research, covering areas such as iconographic and iconological analysis, integrated heritage management, inventory of immovable and movable assets, conservation and restoration, museum practice and exhibition curation. art, or the area of cultural tourism.

Objectives 

Art History plays an essential role in the study of the artistic heritage of mankind, contributing to our understanding of the artistic creation of the past and present. The main generic objective of the programme is to prepare scientifically-qualified students to take on tasks related to the study and appreciation of artistic heritage. Graduates should master and be able to critically interpret the main methodologies, debates and concepts of historical and artistic research, from pre-historical art to contemporary art. Graduates should be capable of transmitting information, solving problems and sustaining arguments in this field of study in an independent manner. Graduates should master the methodologies, practices and concepts associated with a form of artistic heritage management that is ethically and socially committed. Finally, graduates should also possess learning skills that enable them to continue to pursue their studies with a high degree of autonomy.

Career prospects 
The degree in History of Art offers a varied training that responds very flexibly to a rapidly changing job market. Graduates in Art History can work in activities as diverse as managing artistic heritage, inventory and safeguarding heritage, in the management of collections, in art markets, in cultural tourism, in the production of cultural content, in research or in teaching. Many of the graduates in History of Art continue to study, entering master's and doctoral courses in Arts and Humanities, such as the Master's in History of Art and Heritage, offered by the Faculty of arts and humanities.
