This course offers specialized training in the study of the issues that define the great historical religions that determine the East-West dialogue, stimulating the investigation of the process of formation of the matrix of medieval, modern and contemporary European cultures.

Objectives 

This course aims at developing historians in the areas of History and Culture of the Religions. The goal is to introduce the students to the study of the problems that define the great historical religions and that determine the dialogue between the Eastern and the Western Cultures, as well as the problems of the construction of the matrix/the basis of the medieval, modern and contemporary European cultures. This course also aims at filling a national gap in the area of historiography about History and Culture of the Religions, thus resorting to the human and scientific capital available at a great level at the University of Lisbon.

Career prospects 
Masters in History and Culture of Religions will be able to continue their studies at a 3rd cycle level (PhD), in one of the specialties of this scientific area. The Master's degree in History and Culture of Religions also confers a specialization level on those qualified to teach in primary and secondary education.

Applicants will be admitted if in possession of one of the following degrees: 1. an undergraduate degree or a legal equivalent in Humanities or other areas of academic education, according to approval from the Scientific Council; 2. a foreign academic degree approved/acknowledged following a first study cycle organised according to what has been established in the Bologna Process by a signatory state, in courses in the area of Humanities or other areas of academic education, according to approval from the Scientific Council; 3. a foreign academic degree in Humanities or other areas of academic education, which is in accordance to the goals set in the licentiate/1st cycle degree by the Faculty’s Scientific Council.
