As part of the "European Masters in Translation" network, the Masters in Translation aims to develop fundamental scientific, technical and technological skills for the training of qualified professionals in the field of translation. The offer of the Master in Translation allows the acquisition of skills necessary for the practice of translation in several specialized fields (audiovisual translation, translation of scientific and technical texts and literary texts), as well as the development of advanced research in the field of translation (theory of , methodologies and technologies of translation).

Objectives

The Translation MA encompasses translation seminars, namely scientific-technical translation, audiovisual translation and literary translation, taught in four source languages (German, English, French and Spanish). The following seminars - Língua, Discurso e Tradução, Língua, Cultura e Tradução, Produção do Português Escrito and Oficina de Tradução Multilingue (optional) - apply linguistics to translation. As far as translation technologies are concerned, an integrated view of Machine Translation issues is thoroughly explored in Sistemas de Tradução Automática. As a free optional seminar, and highly recommended by the EMT network, Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) (Tradução Assistida por Computador - advanced level - TAC) deals with the application of electronic translation tools to linguistic corpora.

Career prospects
Practice of translation in specialized domains; participation in research and development projects.
National Admission Exams
Taking into account that this is a Master in Translation with a strong practical component of translation seminars where textual samples are translated from source languages (German, Spanish, French or English) into Portuguese, BA-graduate applicants must be proficient at one or more of these foreign languages, paired with proficiency in Portuguese.
