Human Geography: Globalization, Society and Territory
1
The Master in Human Geography: Globalization, Society and Territory assumes an eminently critical orientation in the approach to spatial processes, adding to the intersection of Social Geography with Political Geography (in articulation with the economic dimension), the view of Cultural Geography, making more complete the way of analysing problems and providing answers to them. By reinforcing training in methods (qualitative, quantitative and cartographic) and introducing the possibility of curricular internships as an alternative to theses, it reinforces the practical skills of the students and supports their experimentation in a work context.
The specific objectives of the master's degree are to provide, to students of various courses, the achievement of specific and integrated skills in the scope of advanced training, with a strong theoretical, methodological and critical reflection component, possibly in a practical context of application, focusing on the following areas:
The dynamics of contemporary spatial organization in the context of globalization and global-local relations;
The processes and expressions of spatial injustice and segregation in urban areas;
The changes in the economy and the environment and their territorial repercussions on various scales;
The conflicts associated with changes in geopolitics and in the processes of competition for the various resources;
Trends in population mobility and migration and the construction of culturally diverse territories;
The cultural production of landscapes in their material, textual and performative dimensions, and the symbolic, experiential and emotional meanings of space and place;
The way in which changes in social organization and spatial organization are articulated.
