The Degree in Animal Production Engineering, taught jointly with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, aims to train graduates to: design, plan and monitor production activities and livestock enterprises, making them efficient, modern and technologically advanced, developing technologies to improve productivity of livestock, for sustainability of resources and the resolution of the problems inherent to develop, implement and master development policies with a view to meet the needs and preferences of consumers while ensuring safety in the food chain, improve animal production systems, capable of arousing advances in the areas of production, conservation and technological upgrading of animal feed, animal breeding and reproduction, hygiene and sanitary control of livestock production facilities and, lastly, act innovatively by introducing new trends and application of biotechnology in the production sectors.Livestock production is now an extremely competitive activity in developed countries and in the EU that is more than 50% of the gross value of agricultural production. Hence the socio-economic importance of this profession and the consequent need for greater specialization and specific preparation in the productive sector. Job opportunities can be directed both to the public sector, through the Ministry of Agricultures, Fisheries and Rural Development (General and Regional Offices, Agencies of quality control, Agencies of Research and Development), Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Institutions of Scientific Research and of Higher Education) or the Ministry of Industry (Scientific and Technological Research institutions) and the private sector companies in the areas of Agro-Livestock, Agro-Food Processing Industries, Animal Food Industries, Quality Control, or Planning and Consulting.
