Civil Engineering develops construction and rehabilitation solutions to cater to the needs of urban day-to-day life. Civil engineers design, develop and explore systems, which allow us to use them adequately, with particular emphasis on the improvement of the quality of life. Essential activities are the management of works and projects, the planning of transport networks, the construction of hydraulic works and the use of water resources.
An engineer must have the necessary training for, in the face of a new problem, be able to analyse it, identify its
relevant characteristics and find appropriate solutions.
It is MECivil’s objective to give each student the skills to:
• easily adapt to technological changes;
• adapt existing technologies to new problems;
• develop tools to assess the quality of the processes that uses in the development of systems and solutions;
• manage the entire process of analysis, design, development and maintenance of products or systems under its responsibility;
• understand the economic, social and human aspects and its relationship with the technical problems;
• develop personal attitudes, such as creativity, learning and constant updating, the leadership and integration in team work, the ethical and behavioural concerns;
• be aware that his / her choices have an environmental impact that needs to be evaluated.
