Lifelong Learning

Today’s higher education institutions have the obligation to ensure that any person, at any stage of life, may continue their studies as a logical recognition of the skills and competencies acquired in a variety of contexts, or simply to allow any person to refocus their career.

In accordance with this rationale, ULisboa seeks to develop effective lifelong learning strategies, based on the European Universities' Charter on Lifelong Learning, namely:

- To define institutional strategies that ensure an increased access to lifelong learning for a broad spectrum of students;

- To promote educational and training opportunities that are targetted at a diverse population of learners;

- To design curricula programmes that encourage the participation of students of different backgrounds, and which attract adult students;

- To provide appropriate counselling and guidance services;

- To implement new ways of recognising non-formal learning;

- To integrate the principles of lifelong learning into the culture of quality of each institution, and that of the whole university;

- To strengthen the relationship between research, education and innovation, in a lifelong learning perspective;

- To conduct organisational reforms that promote an environment of flexible and creative learning, for all types of students;

- To develop partnerships at local, regional, national and international level, in order to offer attractive and relevant programmes;

- To act as a model for those universities that offer lifelong learning.
