The University of Lisbon Volunteering Programme aims to encourage the training and education of members of the academic community, particularly students, regarding the values of social cohesion, tolerance, equality and non-discrimination, with the aim of developing solidarity and promoting active citizenship.
The University of Lisbon’s (ULisboa) Volunteering Programme encompasses the various activities carried out in the Schools, University Administration, Social Services and partner organisations. The programme, which is framed within the University of Lisbon's Volunteer Programme Regulations, is part of its social responsibility policies.
Since 2022, ULisboa has held the Academia Voluntária Quality Seal, awarded by the Cooperativa António Sérgio para a Economia Social [António Sérgio Cooperative for the Social Economy] (CASES). This seal was revalidated for the 2024-2025 period, honouring ULisboa for its efforts in promoting volunteering. In 2024, ULisboa was also awarded a merit award by CASES, in recognition of the work carried out by the teams dedicated to promoting volunteering. CASES has only awarded this honour to three Portuguese higher education institutions.
ULisboa offers the University Volunteer Curriculum (CVU) course, developed through a partnership between the School of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Psychology and the Institute of Education. This programme aims to reinforce volunteering skills and contributes to the implementation, dissemination and recognition of this practice in a university context, making it accessible to all university students.

The ULisboa Volunteering Network, established in 2024, brings together the Schools and Central Services of the University of Lisbon with the aim of promoting, coordinating and recognising volunteering initiatives developed across the University. It provides a framework for institutional collaboration that strengthens ULisboa's social responsibility and encourages the active participation of students, academic staff and professional services staff in projects that have a positive impact on the wider community.
Over the past few years, the Network has consolidated the collection and systematisation of information on volunteering activities carried out by the various Schools and Services, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the areas of intervention, the communities served and the needs identified. This work has supported the update of the ULisboa Volunteering Activity Report, enhancing the visibility and recognition of existing initiatives.
The Network has also organised broader meetings with representatives from the Schools, dedicated to sharing good practice, discussing operational challenges and identifying common priorities for the future development of volunteering at the University. Its key areas of action include establishing regular mechanisms for information sharing, strengthening collaboration between Schools and Services, and promoting student engagement in activities with social impact.
The ULisboa Volunteering Network has therefore established itself as an essential instrument for strengthening the University's culture of social responsibility and fostering active, informed civic engagement.
