Innovation and Knowledge Transfer
At ULisboa, innovation means transforming knowledge into impact
We connect science, technology, humanities and culture to society, creating economic and social value and contributing to a more sustainable future.
Our School observatories, projects and partnerships feed the dialogue between science and society, tackling topics such as education, ageing, democracy or the environment, and contributing to informed public policies and solutions with real impact.
We work with companies and organisations that benefit from the knowledge generated at the University. From identifying partners to negotiating collaboration agreements, we promote the transfer of knowledge based on a solid intellectual property framework.
With hubs such as Tec Labs, TT@Técnico and TTC@ULisboa, we support those who want to undertake, from idea to business. We support researchers, entrepreneurs and start-ups, bringing the University closer to the business community and stimulating new forms of innovation.
In the last five years, ULisboa researchers have published 227 international patents. We have more than 100 active start-ups and spinoffs, with a combined valuation of 13 billion euros. Lisbon today concentrates 67 per cent of the value of the national startup ecosystem, with ULisboa as the main driving force (Startup Lisboa, IGCF 2022).
Innovation also involves training: we promote training programmes, mobility between schools, mentoring and open innovation sessions, with a special focus on doctoral students and young researchers. We encourage good practices in intellectual property, technology and knowledge valorisation — so that innovation is part of ULisboa DNA.
