Goals

GLOBE is a joint Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme in Global Change Ecology and Biodiversity Management, delivered by a consortium of four universities: Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Spain), Bangor University (United Kingdom), Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala (Mexico), and the University of Lisbon (Portugal). Throughout their academic pathway, students move between these four universities, experience their respective cultures and ways of working, and benefit from a diverse network of invited Academic and Associate Partners, including companies and reputable non-academic institutions.

GLOBE is the first international Master’s programme to implement an integrative approach to analyse, assess, and respond to global change and biodiversity loss, while promoting effective environmental management. Its aim is to train graduates with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to address these issues through an integrated curriculum that draws on the expertise of the partner higher education institutions and aligns with the wide range of EU strategic and guiding documents on Environment, Biodiversity, and Climate, as well as the UN SDGs. This interdisciplinary training, of high academic level and set in a broad international context, will produce graduates with diverse portfolios of conceptual and practical skills, capable of designing innovative and more suitable solutions to current and future environmental challenges for the benefit of people and the planet.

Career prospects

GLOBE distinguishes itself from existing educational offerings, both in the participating countries and within the European space, by focusing on a highly relevant area of great societal importance, where demand for specialised professionals continues to grow. The multicultural and multidisciplinary nature of the programme will produce highly qualified graduates with international perspectives on issues related to global change, capable of addressing environmental challenges in their multiple dimensions, including ecological, conservation, social, and management aspects. Graduates are expected to have strong capacity to conduct high-level research in these fields and to be highly sought-after in the labour market, performing competitive roles in both the public and private sectors, in line with the needs of companies, public administration, and non-governmental organisations.
