Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Department of Mathematics (DM) at the Instituto Superior Técnico. He holds a degree in Physics, a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics from the Technical University of Lisbon.
He teaches in the scientific area of Dynamical Systems and Differential Equations, having taught the following courses:
Numerical Analysis, Computing, Linear Algebra, Analysis II and IV, Mathematics I and II, Ordinary Differential Equations and Bifurcation Theory in Differential Equations, as well as Seminar and Monograph courses. In 2022, he will teach the newly introduced course on Music and Mathematics.
He carries out his scientific activity within the Centre for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Dynamical Systems (CAMGSD), a unit accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology. His main areas of expertise are the analysis of discrete dynamical systems, synchronisation, bifurcations of nonlinear dynamical systems and population dynamics.
He has held the following academic management positions: Programmer of the IST Music Seasons from 2007 to 2021; Vice-President of the Department of Mathematics at the Instituto Superior Técnico from 2016 to 2020; Vice-President of the International Centre for Mathematics in the two previous terms, from 2013 to 2020.
