This Program is aimed at anyone wishing to obtain a doctoral degree and perform highly qualified functions in the public sector, in the private sector and in the social economy sector, in the national or international context. Such functions include teaching and research, direction and management of organizations, consultancy, training, journalism, planning, elaboration of development projects, as well as design and evaluation of public policies, projects or programs.

Such roles include teaching and research, directing and managing organizations, consultancy, training, journalism, planning, drawing up development projects, as well as designing and evaluating public policies, projects or programmes.
Access and ingress
Graduates may be admitted to study for the PhD in Economic and Organisational Sociology if they hold a Masters in the scientific fields of Sociology, Economics, Management and social sciences which are considered acceptable by the Scientific Board, as well as other candidates who demonstrate an ability to study for this degree. Graduates who just hold a Bachelors in one of the these subjects may also apply, as long as they have a minimum grade of 16, or exceptionally a lower grade, together with a curriculum that proves an adequate scientific background or professional experience.
The selection of candidates is made by the Scientific Board of the PhD Programme, based on the following criteria:
> Masters and respective final grade;
> Bachelors and respective final grade;
> Scientific curriculum and relevant professional experience;
> Research proposal.
