Graduates of the Master's Degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing obtain a Master's degree (Level 7 of the QNQ).
Students who opt for the Internship with Report modality are eligible to apply to the Order of Nurses for the professional title of Specialist Nurse, as they acquire the specific and common skills required to provide specialised nursing care in highly complex situations, to lead care and teams, and to produce and disseminate scientific knowledge and design innovative solutions in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing.
Masters in this area are able to carry out their professional activity in three sectors — public, private and private practice — and in various contexts, such as Community Mental Health Teams, general and psychiatric hospitals, psychosocial rehabilitation units, addiction intervention units, integrated continuing mental health care, clinics, companies, schools, residential facilities for the elderly and non-governmental organisations, among others.
Access and ingress
Candidates who meet one of the following conditions may enter:
• Hold a Nursing Degree with at least 240 ECTS, or legal equivalent, obtained from a Portuguese higher education institution;
• Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the
principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process
Teaching activities take place mostly in the after-work regime, some of which may be diurnal. The internships are diurnal or in shifts, following the activity of the guiding nurses.
