For Luís Ferreira, this election represents an opportunity to consolidate ULisboa as a ‘robust, integrated and relevant institution, a more equitable, more ambitious and more connected university’.
Teaching, Innovation, Science, Internationalisation and Sustainability are the priorities for the new term.
Among the priorities set for the new term are:
- Pedagogical innovation, through the adoption of more active teaching methods, critical thinking and interdisciplinarity;
- Promoting academic success and combating school dropout rates, with student support programmes from the moment they enter higher education
- Innovation and scientific research, with a focus on fundamental science and interdisciplinarity, valuing young researchers and combating precariousness;
- Strengthening internationalisation, with more mobility programmes, new strategic partnerships and a solid welcome for international students
- Environmental and social sustainability, with more culture and inclusion, a University open to all and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Commitment to the Community and Society
Luís Ferreira renewed his commitment to close, transparent and participatory governance, valuing the entire academic community: students, professors, researchers and technicians.
Investment in university infrastructure will also be a priority, with 49 projects underway and around €60 million earmarked in the budget for construction and refurbishment work next year. In this context, the University of Lisbon's commitment to building new university residences is particularly noteworthy.
Academic and Institutional Background
Luís Ferreira is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with an academic and scientific career spanning more than 30 years, marked by significant contributions to biotechnology and university management. He has been Rector of the University of Lisbon since 2021.
I am not running for office. I am running to serve.
