Unite! Volunteers Week 2026: Sustainability in Action

From September 28 to October 4, the universities in the Unite! alliance will host Unite! Volunteers Week 2026, a week dedicated to sustainability, participation, and community action, under the theme “Sustainability in Action.”

As part of the Unite! Volunteers Program 2026, the initiative brings together students from different European universities for volunteer activities aimed at turning sustainability into concrete actions. Throughout the week, there will be workshops, activities focused on reuse and the circular economy, cleanup efforts, awareness-raising initiatives, and other activities involving the academic communities.

Each participating university develops an initiative tailored to its local context, while contributing to a common goal: promoting environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and engagement within the university community.

The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) is participating in this initiative with the event “Sustainability @ University Stadium,” which will take place at the Lisbon University Stadium on September 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

During the afternoon, students and members of the university community will be able to participate in various hands-on activities, including removing invasive species, building insect hotels, a swap meet, plogging, urban gardening, and an escape room — an initiative that combines volunteering, sustainability, and socializing.

Unite! Volunteers Week also features initiatives organized by Aalto University, Grenoble INP-UGA, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Politecnico di Torino, TU Darmstadt, TU Graz, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

Participation in some of the activities is also open to the university community, allowing students and staff to contribute to concrete actions and be part of a European movement for sustainability.
