The pedagogical course ‘Sustainability in Teaching’ is currently open for any participant who wishes to take the opportunity. The international course aimed at professors from member universities of the university Alliance Unite! focuses on integrating sustainability subjects in procedures of teaching and learning.

The course was planned to equip professors with theoretical knowledge and practical tools, in order to include sustainability principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their courses, curriculums, and teaching strategies. Over the sessions, participants will explore different perspectives regarding education for sustainability, key competences, and the role of values and emotions during the educational process.

The course includes:

  • Discussions about the fundamental concepts of sustainability and SDGs in academic contexts;
  • Analysis of pedagogical approaches to integrate sustainability in teaching at the level of curricular units and programmes;
  • Interactive activities (individual and in group) that promote reflection, dialogue, and collaboration.

Learning goals:

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Relate sustainable development concepts and SDGs with their respective disciplinary field;
  • Conceive and apply learning goals and activities aligned with sustainability in their own teaching;
  • Include sustainability skills in the curricular development;
  • Reflect on the impact of values and emotions in teaching related to sustainability.

  • Course dates (2026): 6 March – 22 May (sessions virtually held on Fridays)
  • Course format: Online
  • Estimated workload: Equivalent to 3 ECTS (approx. 81 hours)
  • Language: English
  • Who can apply: Professors exercising functions at University of Lisbon and other member universities of the Unite! Alliance interested in developing teaching practices aligned with sustainability
  • Application deadline: 8 February 2026
