7,711 students were admitted to ULisboa, representing 15% of the national total of students admitted through the National Admissions Process. The University of Lisbon has once again established itself as the national institution of higher education that enrolls the most students.
Programmes at the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) once again stood out among the choices of higher education applicants: 44,119 of the 60,513 students who applied during the first phase of the 2026 CNAES included ULisboa among their choices. Among them, 9,472 listed ULisboa as their first choice, representing 16% of the national total.
With a total of 7,800 spots (14% of the national total), ULisboa is once again the institution with the largest enrollment capacity in the country. Of the 20 programmes with the most spots in the CNAES, seven are at ULisboa: Law (Faculty of Law), with 445 openings, Medicine (Faculty of Medicine), with 297, Nursing (Nursing School of ULisboa), with 278, Electrical and Computer Engineering (técnico ULisboa), with 220, Pharmaceutical Sciences (Faculty of Pharmacy), with 215, Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (School of Arts and Humanities), with 211, e Architecture (Lisbon School of Architecture), with 209 openings.
Among ULisboa’s new students, 4,348 were admitted to their first-choice programme, representing 56%—a figure above the national average, which stood at 53%. In several of the University’s programmes, this percentage even exceeded 90%, demonstrating a strong alignment between applicants’ choices and the education they receive at ULisboa.
Among the programmes with the highest admission scores for the last student admitted, Aerospace Engineering (Técnico ULisboa) stands out, with a score of 18.6 for 135 spots, compared to about 30 spots at most similar institutions.
In addition to this one, ULisboa had 12 other programmes in which the cutoff score for the last admitted student was higher than 17, namely: Architecture and Design (Lisbon School of Architecture); Medicine (Faculty of Medicine; Dental Medicine (Faculty of Dental Medicine); Management, taught in English; Economics, taught in English; and Applied Mathematics for Economics and Management, taught in Portuguese and English (ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management); General Engineering (GENI), taught in English; Applied Mathematics and Computing; Mechanical Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; and Engineering Physics (Técnico ULisboa).
Against a backdrop of rapid technological and scientific transformation, and in an effort to address increasingly interdisciplinary and global challenges, the Técnico ULisboa is launching its innovative bachelor’s degree in General Engineering (GENI), which appears for the first time in the CNAES with a minimum admission score of 17.1 for the last admitted student. The 2026–2027 academic year also marks the launch of the bachelor’s degree in Data Science from the Faculty of Sciences, which aims to meet the growing demand for professionals in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
ULisboa continues to attract students with very high academic merit. This year, 211 new students were admitted with scores above 19, and 31 even achieved scores of 19.5 or higher. Two students were admitted to ULisboa with a score of 20: one in the History programme at the School of Arts and Humanities, and another in International Relations at the School of Social and Political Sciences.
The University of Lisbon reaffirms its position as a leading institution at the national level, filling 99% of available spots. This result underscores the consistent demand for ULisboa’s programs.
