The University’s prestige and scientific excellence are also reflected in its ranking among the Top 100 in fields such as Ecology, Oceanography, Water Resources, and Statistics, and among the Top 200 in disciplines such as Physics, Earth Sciences, Automation and Control, Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, and Political Science.
Nationally, ULisboa leads in 22 fields and is ranked in 35 of the 57 evaluated (covering Natural Sciences, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Engineering). The institution also stands out as the only Portuguese university included in the ranking in fields such as Automation and Control, Political Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Medical Technology, and Water Resources.
Created in 2009, ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) is internationally recognized as one of the most prestigious rankings in higher education. The 2026 edition analyzed approximately 2,000 institutions from about 100 countries and regions, based on rigorous criteria of scientific productivity, research quality and impact, academic distinctions, and international cooperation.
