The European University Alliance Unite!, of which University of Lisbon is a member, announced a new online workshop series. The workshops are free of charge and aim to support the well-being and sense of belonging of PhD students and students underrepresented in academia.

“Belonging and Well-Being Workshop Series” is the name of the initiative consisting of four interactive Zoom sessions, each lasting 60-90 minutes, focused on relevant topics throughout the PhD journey, including resilience strategies, self-assured communication, compassionate leadership and ways of fostering academic support relationships. 

This set of workshops was conceived to provide practical tools, guided reflection and open dialogue in a safe and included environment, in which participants will work on strengthening their sense of belonging, developing effective coping strategies, and fostering personal and academic growth. 

 Workshop calendar 

  • 27 January, 11:00 AM CET - IDGs and Compassionate Systems Leadership: Transform how you lead complex change

Led by Lucie Jiraskova (Grenoble INP - UGA): This session explores the inner development guide and approaches compassionate leadership to learn new ways of thinking well-being and personal relationships practices. 

  • 17 February, 11:00 AM CET - Belonging and Support in Academia: Connect More, Stress Less

With Wilfried Grassegger (TU Graz): This session delves into strategies for recognising and confronting the impacts of “not belonging”, as offers guidance on fostering support relationships within the academic sphere.

  • 3 March, 11:00 AM CET - From Self-Doubt to Confidence: Boost your Next Speech

Guided by Diana Seyfarth (TU Darmstadt): This session offers practical strategies to overcome self-doubt and increase confidence in presentations and communication. 

  • 9 April, 11:00 AM CET - Navigating Academia as You Are: Tools for Inclusion & Resilience

Led by Lea Belz (TU Darmstadt): This session contemplates microaggressions in the academic sphere, exploring strategies for inclusion and resilience.

Participation and registration

Workshops are aimed primarily to PhD students and others experiencing academic and personal challenges similar to those encountered during the doctoral programme. Participation is free of charge, held in English, online via Zoom, and open to members of the university Alliance Unite!.

University of Lisbon encourages the doctoral community to take part in this international opportunity to strengthen well-being and academic belonging skills, while fostering connections with peers and experts from various European universities.
