Through Unite! Doctoral School, the Unite! University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering is organising a series of specialised online lectures aimed at Doctoral students from member universities, including the University of Lisbon. The initiative will take place from April to June 2026, with registration open until 31 March 2026.
The set of lectures will be focused on the recent advancements and research trends in three priority areas: artificial intelligence, energy, and Industry 4.0. Lectures will be conducted by experts from university members of the Unite! Alliance and aim to support the advanced training of PhD students, providing an international and interdisciplinary perspective regarding current technological and scientific challenges.
Artificial Intelligence
The module on Artificial Intelligence covers recent trends in this field, exploring inner workings of modern systems, including optimisation methods, advanced reasoning, error detection and machine learning with limited data. Key topics will include combinatorial optimisation, models based on the analysis of relationships between variables, and learning protocols for small datasets.
Energy
The Energy module aims to analyse the energy transition as a complex and practical engineering process. The lectures will cover low-emission solutions, such as solar and wind power, hydrogen, energy storage and nuclear power, with a focus on the integration of these technologies into complex energy systems. Topics such as system flexibility, infrastructure constraints, socio-economic factors, cryogenic technologies, and challenges in global energy supply chains will also be discussed.
Industry 4.0
The module dedicated to Industry 4.0 focuses on the practical aspects of modern industrial and manufacturing systems. The programme covers topics related to additive manufacturing, new processes, and materials, as well as applications in demanding sectors such as aeronautics and space. Real-world implementations of Industry 4.0 solutions will also be covered, including advanced data analysis for machine monitoring and fault detection, as well as artificial intelligence-based decision support systems for production planning, inventory management and supply chain coordination.
